Under what Law marriage in Pakistan is registered?

For Muslims marriage is a civil contract and it shall be executed on Nikahnama which is provided under Rule 8 & 10 of the Muslims Family Laws Ordinance, 1961. Nikah to be executed by the Nikah Registrar of the nearby Union, Tehsil, District where Ward is residing. It has to be registered with the Union Council soon after its execution. One copy given to the Ward and other would kept at the Union Council for evidence and record. 

What is Dower Amount?

Under Muslims Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 Dower amount is a consideration amount of a civil contract i.e marriage shall be given by husband to wife at the execution of Nikahnama. Clause 13 to 16 of Nikahnama pertains to Mehr/Dower Amount.

Dower Amount can be Prompt or Deferred. It can be given at the time of Nikah or thereafter as mutually agreed between Both parties.

Dower Amount can be amount in cash, property, gold ornaments, dwelling, furniture, etc. However if it is not cash then worth of the movable or immovable property shall be inserted in the Nikahnama.

Whether Dower Amount has to be waived off by wife during dissolution of marriage?

Under Clause 18 of Nikahnama husband gives unconditional and irrevocable right of divorce to his wife. If wife exercise this right for Dissolution of marriage, she is not inclined to waive off her dower amount because she herself dissolving her marriage by exercising her right of divorce. Wife exercise her right under the Muslims Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 and Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act, 1939. In case of obtaining Khula she has to give away her dower amount.

What is Talak-e-Tafweez?

Under Section: 7 of the Muslims Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 wife has the right to divorce her husband if that right has been provided to her at the time of marraige.
